The northerly Whale migration generally peaks during the last two or three weeks of June.
However sightings can not be guaranteed
N.B. The Whale watch platform is still being upgraded and as a result the road and some sections of tracks remain closed - along with the toilet facilities at the Head Lands. Our route will allow for at least one visit to toilet facilities.
Park along the south-eastern end of Polo St, Kurnell and meet at my vehicle - red Commodore station wagon, parked in this street – at 9am.
Our route will be varied and include untracked, tracked, service roads, board walks and along the rock platforms at the Hedland’s, maintaining a safe distance.
We will spend about 1.5 to 2 hours making our way out to the Headlands where we will remain for some 4 to 5 hours. Once there our movements will be dictated by any passing Whale activities. During the day we will make our way to the south before returning. There are numerous suitable locations for Lunch and snacks etc.
If we are all experienced in the outdoors, after discussions, it may be possible for some to leave earlier; the route back to the vehicles is straight forward.
WEAR - suitable clothes for the day, including enclosed footwear, long pants, jumpers, perhaps a beanie, and a wind jacket - even if the weather looks good on the day.
BRING - water, snacks, lunch (perhaps a flask with warm drink), sun protection and cream, 1st Aid Kit etc.
A camera; if it has “good” lenses and binoculars if you have them.
(If there are sufficient requests I may be able to do the walk on Saturday 30th July in lieu)
It is essential that you inform me directly if you are coming. Otherwise you will not be informed of any late changes to the plan.
Thanks.
